? When you see the phrase “age-friendly city” what is your first thought?

According to the World Health Organization an “age-friendly city” is an inclusive and accessible community environment that optimizes opportunities for health, participation, and security for all people, in order that quality of life and dignity is ensured as people age.

We shouldn’t focus only on the age but on the people’s needs, protect those who are the most vulnerable, and recognize diversity. Age-friendly environments are free from social and physical barriers.

In 2010 The WHO started Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities. The Network connects cities, communities, and organizations worldwide with the common vision of making their community a great place to grow old in.
