Ireland the first age-friendly country in the world

Did you know that Ireland is the first age-friendly country in the world? Each of Ireland’s 31 local government-led programs has an “Age Friendly” strategy. The programs include walkable streets, housing and transportation options, access to key services, and opportunities for older people to participate in community activities.

By 2026 there will be 1.15 million people in Ireland aged 60 or over, representing almost one out of every four people. By these changes, communities are better equipped to become great places for people of all ages.

Therefore there will be special space for cities within UMSA 2021 – City Forum – as they themselves are often the driving force and great support in solutions responding to an irreversible phenomenon of an aging societies.
